A Relationship with Light
Light and its connection to darkness is part of several Creation Myths and Stories around the globe and across seemingly distant cultures. Some say humans are beings of light and our life purpose is to become enlightened. Whether this is true or not, light remains a fascinating and intriguing phenomenon. It’s everywhere, always has, since the beginning of time, and perhaps until the end…
You and I as well as all living systems on this planet constantly and spontaneously generate emissions of light due to our metabolic activities. However, we also need external light to see, to stay warm, to generate energy, and to grow. Light is a mandatory component for electromagnetic energy transfers to happen, which makes chemistry possible. In other words, light from within and from without is fundamental to the existence and the evolution of all living beings. With that in mind, it seems sensible to show reverence to light in one way or another. A kind of tribute to a great source of life that holds the Universe together and allows creation to unfold.
A Contribution to Beauty
Photography is for me a way to step into a conscious relationship with light in a respectful and admirative fashion. A sort of dance happens: find a place and a subject, engage in the process of composition, adjust the exposure, play with colors and contrasts, tweak the sensitivity of the sensor, and finally press the shutter button with the intention to immortalize a slice of life into the frame. It’s a bit like stopping time, at the speed of light. Photography is a medium that allows me to express myself, to convey messages, and through which I try to reveal the beauty of our world.
